Faith Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, Illinois is pleased to present ‘Advent Allegro,’ a series of online concerts every Wednesday in December leading up to Christmas. The concerts will start at noon and will be streamed on the church’s Facebook and YouTube video channels. Each concert will last 30 minutes.  Videos are also posted on the Worship page of this website.

The Advent Allegro concerts are a beloved Christmas tradition at Faith Lutheran Church, attracting noted artists each year. During the Covid-19 event, the church has moved the concerts online so it can be enjoyed safely. Concerts will remain available to watch after the event, and can be enjoyed again and again. This is our gift to the community during this celebration of Christmas!

About the Artists:

December 2 –  Anna and Bethay Ferraro

Anna and Bethany are classically trained musicians based in Jacksonville, IL. They love sharing music as soloists, duet partners, and with their entire family. An award-winning pianist, Anna has a discography of three piano albums (available at www.annaferraromusic.com, and on all streaming platforms). A violinist, Bethany regularly plays with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, and enjoys playing in chamber music settings. Both music teachers, they love investing their creativity, devotion, and energy into their private students. When they’re not making music, they enjoy reading biographies, sampling new teas, and spending time with their family.

December 9 – Violinist Fiona Shea


Fiona Shea has become one of the most significant violin soloists in Central Illinois. Originally from Lubbock, TX, Ms. Shea has appeared as concerto soloist with the Mesquite, Waco, Conroe, Kingsville, and Abilene Symphonies in Texas as well as with orchestras in Jacksonville, IL and Interlochen, MI. She received a Bronze Medal in the Junior Division of the 2017 Fischoff Competition, as a member of the Aurielle Quartet and is a member of the 2016 Class of Texas Young Masters. Most recently, Ms. Shea was featured as one of the soloists in Colburn’s 2019 Concerto Showcase and has had opportunities to play in masterclasses with artists including Ray Chen, Stefan Jackiw and Hilary Hahn. Ms Shea is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree at the Colburn Conservatory, where she studies with Professor Robert Lipsett.

December 16 – Jacob Smetters and the Jacksonville High School choirs


Enjoy the Jacksonville High School choirs, directed by Jacob Smetters, as they perform specially prepared numbers for the holiday season! This event features a growing group of students who are discovering and honing their vocal abilities. Students of all levels of experience are welcome, from those interested in majoring in vocal performance to those who are trying choir for the first time. The Advent Allegro performance features the Madrigal choir comprised of 16 sophomores through seniors. They will not be able to offer their traditional madrigal meal this year and are pleased to be able to share their music with the community through this concert. Also featured will be a number of solos and ensembles by members of the choirs.

December 23 – Chicago Church of Christ Choir


This dynamic choir was formed in 1982, and is led by Lara Jenkins, and are pleased to be sharing their gift of song with the entire community. Their music has been a huge success on YouTube and a strength of their ministry. The the rich diversity of the Chicago Church of Christ is reflected in their choir and with 3,000 members attending nine different locations around Chicago, they have plenty of talent to draw from. This event is sure to be a favorite, and a great way to guide us into the special day of Christmas.
